Slate Financial Technologies Inc. (“Slate,” “we,” or “us”) takes privacy seriously. This Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to apply.slate.cx and our lending services in the United States and Canada.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide. Account details (name, email, phone, password), business details (legal name, address, ownership, contact information), and any documents you upload during underwriting.
Financial information. Bank-account transaction data you connect via aggregators or provide directly, used for underwriting and repayment.
Identity-verification data. Identifiers required to comply with anti-money-laundering, know-your-customer, and know-your-business obligations.
Device and usage data. Standard log information (IP, user-agent, timestamps), product analytics, and cookie data that supports session, security, and analytics functionality.
2. How we use information
We use information to: (a) provide, secure, and improve the Service; (b) underwrite, fund, and service your loan; (c) verify identity and prevent fraud; (d) comply with legal, tax, and regulatory obligations; (e) communicate with you about your account, your application, and product updates; and (f) generate aggregated, de-identified analytics that do not identify you.
3. How we share information
We share information only with parties that need it to deliver the Service: cloud and infrastructure providers, payment processors, bank-data aggregators, identity-verification vendors, fraud-prevention services, accounting and tax advisors, and our legal counsel. Each processor is bound by contract to use information only for the services they provide to Slate.
We may also share information when required by law, in response to valid legal process, or as part of a business transaction such as a financing or merger (in which case we will continue to protect the information consistent with this Policy).
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Your choices and rights
Subject to limits in applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, or portability of your personal information, object to certain processing, or withdraw consent. Canadian residents have rights under PIPEDA and applicable provincial laws (such as Quebec's Law 25). U.S. residents in jurisdictions with comprehensive privacy statutes (e.g., California's CCPA/CPRA, Colorado's CPA, Virginia's VCDPA) have additional rights including the right to opt out of targeted advertising and certain profiling.
To exercise a right, email us at privacy@tryslatehq.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
5. Security
We protect information using administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. Connections to and from apply.slate.cx are encrypted with TLS 1.2+. Sensitive credentials are hashed; database backups are encrypted at rest. Access is restricted to personnel who need it to perform their duties.
6. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to deliver the Service, comply with our legal and regulatory obligations (including record-keeping for lending and AML), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Different categories may have different retention periods.
7. International transfers
Slate is headquartered in Canada. Information may be processed in Canada, the United States, and other jurisdictions where our processors operate. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) where required by law.
8. Children
The Service is for businesses and is not intended for individuals under the age of majority. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes
We'll update this Policy as our practices evolve. Material changes will be communicated by email or by an in-product notice. The “Effective” date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
